The leopards were the highlight, but there was much more to the trip.
I came to Sri Lanka especially hoping to see leopards, and Yala was definitely the highlight of the tour. We had some excellent safari time in the park and were lucky with our sightings, but I also really enjoyed how much variety was included in such a short trip. Before reaching Yala, we stopped around the wetlands near Tissamaharama and Debarawewa, where we saw plenty of birdlife and got a first impression of the dry zone. After the safaris, the change of scenery on the way to Nuwara Eliya was just as interesting, with cooler highland landscapes and completely different birds around Victoria Park. Our guide was very knowledgeable about both mammals and birds and never made the trip feel rushed. The driving was comfortable, everything was well organised, and there was still enough time to enjoy the landscapes between the wildlife stops. I booked the trip mainly for the leopards, but in the end I appreciated the whole journey.
