About this tour
Sri Lanka offers exceptional opportunities to observe wild Asian elephants across several very different protected landscapes. This itinerary combines Minneriya, Wasgamuwa and Udawalawe, with a particular focus on elephant behaviour, habitat and conservation. During the dry season, Minneriya may host large seasonal concentrations of elephants around the reservoir, while Udawalawe is one of the island’s most reliable places for observing wild elephants throughout the year.

So much more than just seeing elephants.
We came to Sri Lanka mainly hoping to see wild elephants, and this trip certainly delivered. Minneriya was spectacular. We were lucky with the timing and saw a large number of elephants together around the grasslands and reservoir. Wasgamuwa was completely different - much quieter, fewer vehicles, and at times it felt as though we had the park almost to ourselves. Udawalawe was probably the best place simply to spend time watching elephants. We saw several herds and could just sit quietly and observe them rather than rushing from one sighting to another. Visiting the Elephant Transit Home also gave us a better understanding of the conservation work being done in Sri Lanka. We continued travelling around the country afterwards, but our days with Wild Outside remained one of the highlights of our holiday.
