More than 400 bird species have been recorded, including migrants, while 34 species are endemic to Sri Lanka and found nowhere else in the world. Over 150 bird species and some fantastic endemics!
Three friends and I did the 12-day birding tour in January. What a trip! We saw over 150 bird species, including many of Sri Lanka's endemic birds and several species that had been high on our wish list. Our guide Tiran was simply outstanding. I have been birding in several countries, and he is honestly one of the best guides I have met. His knowledge of calls was especially impressive and several times he picked up birds long before any of us had noticed them. There were some early starts and long birding days, but that is exactly what we came for. Of course, you never see everything you hope for on a wildlife trip, but we came away with an excellent list and some very memorable sightings. Everything around the birding was organised well too - comfortable accommodation, reliable transport and no time wasted sorting out logistics. The four of us are already talking about coming back.
