Wonderful owling experience.
I joined the owl watching tour as a solo traveller and it was a fantastic experience. The tour is quite demanding with night walks, early mornings and some daytime searching for roosting birds, but everything was planned very efficiently. My guide Tiran had excellent knowledge about Sri Lankan owls and their habitats. I was extremely lucky to see eight owl species, including the endemic Serendib Scops Owl and the rare Sri Lanka Bay Owl. I especially enjoyed that this was not a normal sightseeing tour. We really had to search, listen and sometimes wait. Local trackers also helped us to find some daytime roosts, and the drives between the different areas were comfortable. I still have a few missing species, so hopefully this was not my last visit to Sri Lanka!
